The city’s first Denny’s restaurant is planned to open in the La Quinta Inns & Suites on 3330 Candlers Mountain Road across from River Ridge mall.
If it is approved by the city’s technical review committee, the project can move forward with construction without the need to go before City Council because the area already is zoned for that use.
The diner-style restaurant chain would be a 500-square-foot addition to the site of former restaurant Daybreak, which operated under the previous hotel Days Inn. The diner will seat 140 guests.
Mike Woolsey, who works for Restaurant Real Estate Management Corporation LLC, said there is no set opening date yet.
The corporation has been franchising Denny’s in Virginia for 20 years.
Woolsey said his boss, John Metz, has been looking for a site in Lynchburg to build a Denny’s for a while. The next closest Denny’s locations are in Roanoke and Salem.
“From what I understand from folks in the public, they are very excited about having a Denny’s, and people are awaiting an opening,” Woolsey said.
Denny’s is open 365 days of the year and open around the clock.
The technical review committee is closed to the public but meets Feb. 21 in City
