Pick any four you want. Will it be two scrambled eggs, pancakes, ham and grits or maybe a fruit salad with potatoes, toast, oatmeal and bacon? Anyway they choose to have it, diners in Gaston County will soon be able to add the Build-Your-Own Grand Slam at Denny’s to their local dining options.
“In all of my years I’ve been working for Denny’s, and I’m going on 10-plus years, people have been asking for a location in Gastonia,” said Rita Meana, a human resources director with Denny’s. “We’re excited to finally bring that to the area.”
If all goes as planned, the 24-hour diner, located where the old Applebee’s used to be at 3628 E. Franklin Blvd., is expected to open the week of Aug. 21.
Running the restaurant is general manager Kelly Burns, who formerly worked at the Denny’s in Morrisville, just outside of Raleigh. Before coming to the franchise, he worked in leadership positions at Taco Mac.
Burns said he’s already hired about 100 people and is looking to hire even more.
“We plan on being real busy,” said Burns. “About 90 percent of the people I have interviewed have said they are so pumped that we are opening a location and can’t wait to come here.”
The restaurant will include a meeting room for the community that sits about 30 people. Groups can utilize it for parties and meetings
“What I love about this company is that every Denny’s has a local feel to it,” said Burns. “Although we are a franchise, we really focus on building a connection with the community. From working in the one at Morrisville, I came to know a lot of people I wouldn’t have known unless they came and visited us.”
