Will the chain be able to compete against Scramblers on Reservoir Avenue?
The former Friendly’s restaurant—and ongoing eyesore—building on Reservoir Avenue is about to undergo a transformation into a new Denny’s.
The new restaurant is set to open in the beginning of June, a company spokeswoman confirmed on Monday.
The new store will mark Denny’s fourth Rhode Island location. Currently, franchises exist in Warwick, North Smithfield, Johnston and Coventry.
The former Friendly’s at 1177 Reservoir Avenue closed in 2013.
The building had sat vacant ever since with “for lease” signs in the windows.
City property records show the building is 3,800 square feet and sits on a 38,416 square foot lot.
Picerne Investment Corp. of Warwick owns the property, which was assessed at $672,700 in the most recent revaluation.
Denny’s Corporation reported $124 million in revenue in the most recent quarter and opened 45 restaurants in 2015.
As of December 30 of last year, the company has 1,710 restaurants around the world with combined sales of $2.7 billion.
