Indicative of companywide growth
After opening its first location in Alamo Heights’ The Collection retail center nearly 12 years ago, San Antonio-based Massage Heights Corporate LLC has transformed from a small, local business into a national company.
And it needs more space to keep up with the growth.
With an average 20 percent year-over-year growth, the company will be moving its location in The Collection a few blocks south to a 3,924-square-foot space in the H-E-B-anchored Lincoln Heights — a shift that underscores Massage Heights’ growth as a company, growth in its physical presence and its evolving preference to be in more higher-end retail spaces.
Along with the new Alamo Heights address, Massage Heights customers will soon have two new locations — which the company calls retreats — to get their fix.
Massage Heights’ Director of Real Estate Cynthia Lee, a local Keller Williams Realty broker who is active with other clients in the commercial real estate market, said the company is finalizing leases in Bulverde at the along U.S. Highway 281, as well as in the Sonterra Village shopping center along Loop 1604.

Lee said the 925-square-foot retreat in The Collection center will close March 31, with the new Lincoln Heights location — roughly four times larger — will open no later than April 1 to provide a seamless transition for guests. The lease for the Lincoln Heights space is expected to be signed sometime this week.
The company is currently in lease negotiations for the Sonterra Village location, and depending on when the final agreement is signed, an opening date is tentatively scheduled for sometime in May 2016. Lee said they are in the LOI — or letter of intent to lease — for the Bulverde location, so that opening date will be sometime next year.
So what do they look for? Lee said the company’s sweet spot is 2,400 to 3,000 square feet, close to female-focused retailers and in areas with incomes above $100,000 a year.
Bret Franson, Massage Heights’ head of franchise development and retail analytics, said the company has come a long way since it’s initial 925-square-foot Alamo Heights retreat. It is now up to about 138 corporate- and franchised-owned locations across the country, recently opening a new one every two weeks.
“We will be opening 25 to 28 new locations and awarding 35 new franchise agreements this year,” Franson said. “We’re constantly evolving and upping our game, testing new products and services to better reach our customers. Everyone associates growth with success, and fortunately, our locations are all doing well and are all growing.”
