Sky Zone Trampoline Park located at 600 Hadley Road in South Plainfield held its’ grand opening this past Saturday, and what a grand opening it was.
The trampoline park is nothing short of spectacular. Between the bright orange and blue walls and trampoline apparatus it is a sight to see , but just seeing it is nearly impossible to do without wanting to play in it, and that is just what many, including some local dignitaries, did at the Jan. 9 grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony.
Among those who took to the trampolines were South Plainfield’s Mayor Matt Anesh and members of the Borough Council. Mayor Anesh and the Borough Council were on hand for the celebratory ribbon cutting for the 40,000-square foot trampoline park, but soon exchanged their shoes for some orange socks and the fun never seemed to end.
“We are really excited to be here in South Plainfield,” said Phil Stoops, vice president of Philadelphia Trampoline Parks. “The good news is much of our business is based upon word of mouth, and the feedback and word of mouth has been terrific. We are sold out today for the first time. The community reaction has been nothing short of outstanding.”
Sky Zone promotes itself as defying gravity, and that is what the day’s events were able to do. The all-walled trampoline courts, which are designed for optimal air-time, were full of kids of all ages. Ultimate Dodgeball, which is described as a favorite childhood pastime, became a favorite pastime for Mayor Anesh and members of the Borough Council as they dropped their debating tactics in favor of some dodgeball:
“It’s a great pleasure to bring Sky Zone here to South Plainfield,” said Mayor Anesh. “I want to thank Councilman Derryck White for all his efforts. One of the things we try to do is to make the process for bringing new companies to town as easy as possible, we do a lot of ribbon cuttings each year, but I think this is going to be one of the most exciting for 2016.
According to Stoops, Sky Zone appeals to people of all ages and during the grand opening, children, teens, parents and even grandparents could be seen jumping.
“It’s a great place to jump around,” said 7-year-old Erica. “It’s an awesome place.”
One of the young visitors to Sky Zone’s grand opening was 4-year-old South Plainfield resident Jayden Tyler. “It’s cool, I like it a lot,” said young Jayden, who attended the grand opening with his big sister Hailey.
Hailey is a member of the South Plainfield Junior Midget Cheerleaders, winners of the recent Pop Warner National Championships in Walt Disney World. The cheerleaders were on hand to celebrate and have some fun. They even added a cheer to the day’s events:
According to Stoops, one of Sky Zones’ specialties is birthday parties. “You only turn a certain age once, so we really try to make it special,” he said. “We can customize a birthday party to any size, age and need. We can do a value package or if you want private courts we can do that for you, if you need certain food services or an ultimate dodgeball package we can do that for you. We can tailor things towards your needs and your budget. The sky’s the limit.”
South Plainfield is the fifth Sky Zone location in New Jersey and employs over 140 employees, many who hail from the borough. According to Stoops, Sky Zone prides itself on working in the community and being truly a community business.
“We looked at a lot of different territories and could probably have opened anywhere, but once we found the location here in South Plainfield and the way the township and local government worked with us there was really no other choice, but to open here in South Plainfield,” said Stoops.
“Sky Zone is a very community-minded and friendly organization,” said White, who presented the owners with South Plainfield borough pins and an autographed picture from New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno. “We are very pleased and proud to have them as part of our South Plainfield family and look forward to strengthening that relationship as time goes on.”
After the pomp and ceremony everyone really got down to business – the business of fun, and from the reactions of the people in attendance no one does fun better that Sky Zone. And, if you don’t believe TAP, check it out yourself or watch Mayor Anesh doing his spiderman imitation.
